چکیده
After discussing the so-called Ham myth in South Africa, my focus is on African church father Augustine (354–430). All texts from his immense oeuvre which he mentions biblical are reviewed chronological order. In Against Faustus, story of Noah and sons mainly explained as being Christological: figures a type unbelieving Jews who consented to murder Christ, but also because ‘the slave brothers’ carrying books by Christians may be instructed. Later corrects confusion with Canaan. The (and Canaan) most extensively discussed City God. Neither here nor Expositions Psalms, described black or slave. same goes for number other writings. Augustine’s late works Julian Unfinished Work against Julian, thoroughly into question why (although sinned) ‘vengeance was brought upon Canaan’. perceives God’s prophecy: Canaan stems cursed seed [semen maledictum] Canaanites. Nowhere, however, claims that descendants would have been all offspring were condemned slavery.Contribution: This article demonstrates does not occur Augustine. It argues ‘mestizo’ might extra sensitive questions race colour.

As Augustine devoured writings both ancient and of his contemporaries, he fell away from the Church and toward a religious dualism sect known as the Manicheans. His mother, a very devoted Christian (later St. Moni...
